whoever said beige was any better?
it will never be white.
an other each way you progress upon the spectrum.
plus it wasn't draped with thick loose luscious curls
or thick kinky coils to frame a (yellow) face like a headdress
it was short and thin
fragile and degradable
but that precious beige hue right?
that pigment that cures all
or causes diseases
the latter being my experience
sit on the porch so the sun sets in
why are you so light
yella bc daniella is yellow
get it?
yo light skin because I got that bright right skin that catches a man's eye
that sets whites at peace because my ancestors toted server plates in place of cotton sacks
but what if being at one end of the hue spectrum made you self conscious and not confident?
what if you questioned if you were liked for you or the glow of your pigmentation?
what if your skin could never make your hair cascade down your back in grandeur.
what if you don't want to be liked by the majority because to them you're still a n*gger even if just a beige one.
what if this lightness you didn't choose makes the people on your side of the spectrum hate you?
what if an entire family doesn't want you because
well
you're
beige.
the second class hue further up the totem pole but still wrong.
couched between others as the other.
